Bille August’s and Ingmar Bergman’s absolutely marvellous masterpiece.
With breathtakingly beautiful music by Stefan Nilsson.

  1. When I first saw this film, I was so dazzled, I could barely speak for hours. The story was amazing and the photography, especially of northern Sweden in winter light, was breath-taking. And as the son of an Augustana Lutheran clergyman (Swedish Lutheran) I found the script highly accurate. By FAR, my favorite movie EVAH!

    • The film is a condensed version of the four-part Swedish television miniseries that aired in December 1991 (and still available in DVD). In my opinion, it is the only one that can compete with Brideshead Revisited for the title “Best tv-series ever” 🙂
