  1. Identity politics are economic policy. It’s a way to divide the resistance when the state has to drive up the surplus extraction to meet its obligations. A typical example in north America was when the then colony Virginia faced insurrections from it’s settlers – the Bacon rebellion and others – and then instituted slavery for the Africans.
